Spear vs Polearm for Dragon Knight: Classic World Rewrites the Rules
This post was rewritten after Classic World's CBT2 datamines dropped. The traditional MapleStory rule of thumb ('spear for bossing, polearm for mobbing') survives, but the underlying reasons changed completely. Polearm Mastery now grants +1 Movement Speed per level. Spear Mastery grants +1% Critical Rate per level. Piercing Crusher (the reworked Dragon Buster) and Dragon Fury are both now weapon-agnostic with identical 2.5x multipliers. This is no longer an animation-arc debate - it's a mastery-tree branching choice. Also: 3rd job Dragon Knight isn't launching day 1, so all of this is subject to change before it actually ships.

But routing every information beat through MapleFest - while the game is launching in the same window - feels like it's going to cannibalize both events. And then there's the Founder's Pack question: is a 2-week head start plus IGN reservations worth the ask? Is voting with our wallets a signal about the business model, or is it a support gesture for a game the business isn't fully behind? Some questions and no clean answers.

Nexon's new Maple Memo doesn't just target server operators - it targets 'the support structure around them' too. Some of us used private servers to keep nostalgia alive. Some played for the rule variants Nexon never shipped (rebirths, class combos, no-P2W economies). Now Classic World is here, and Nexon is narrowing the market. Will it drive players to the official servers, or foreshadow an aggressive monetization strategy? Some open questions from someone who watched MapleStory 2 rise and fall.
