Getting Started

Your first 30 hours in MapleStory Classic World, distilled. If you've never played earlier-era MapleStory Maple - or you played 15 years ago and forgot most of it - this is the sequence. Every section links to a deeper page.

What is Classic World, exactly?

MapleStory Classic World (MSCW) is Nexon's official re-release of MapleStory as it existed around 2007 - the "traditional MapleStory" era that most longtime players remember as the sweet spot before the Big Bang revamp. Explorer classes only (Warrior, Magician, Bowman, Thief). No Cygnus Knights, no Aran, no Legends. Four regions - Victoria Island, Ossyria (partial), Ludibrium, and events - with the same skill trees, quests, and mob rosters you probably remember.

The difference: everything runs on Nexon's modern client, servers are officially supported (no more private-server drama), and the cash shop / progression have been rebalanced for a re-release audience. Grand Launch went live on October 21, 2026.

Step 1: Maple Island (Lv 1-10)

Every character starts on Maple Island as a Beginner. The tutorial zone teaches basic movement, monster kills, and the quest UI. You cannot leave Maple Island until you reach Lv 10 and finish the ferry quest from Shanks - so don't waste time trying.

Priorities on the island:

Step 2: Choose your class

At Lv 10 (or Lv 8 for Magicians), you visit a class instructor to advance from Beginner. Each class lives in a different town and suits a different playstyle.

Can't decide? Magician is the newbie-friendliest - easy leveling, useful party buffs, forgiving skill build. Warrior is the most beginner-hostile solo (slow, expensive potions) but gets invited to every party. Play what looks fun; every class ships with 2-4 skill builds here.

Step 3: First Job Advancement

Once you hit Lv 10 (Magicians: Lv 8), take the boat/portal to your class's home town and visit the instructor. Advancement is free and hands you 1 SP to spend immediately, plus 3 SP per level after that.

Spend your first SP the moment you advance. Every class ships with recommended 1st-job builds on the Jobs pages. Warriors: Improve MaxHP + Slash Blast. Magicians: Magic Guard THEN Magic Claw. Bowmen: Double Shot or Arrow Blow. Thieves: Lucky Seven (Assassin) or Double Stab (Bandit). Do not skip these - they define your training speed.

Step 4: Grinding Lv 11-30

The gap from 1st job to 2nd job is where new players quit. It's slow, repetitive, and most classes hit a wall around Lv 25-28. The antidote is Kerning Party Quest at Lv 21.

Kerning PQ (KPQ) is a 3-6 player instanced dungeon with puzzles, mob waves, and a mini-boss. Gives 2-3x the EXP-per-hour of solo grinding, drops Rock/Paper/Scissors gloves that carry your 1st job, and teaches party mechanics you'll need for LPQ at Lv 35.

Between PQ runs, grind at:

Step 5: 2nd Job at Lv 30

At Lv 30 (all classes), you unlock the 2nd job advancement quest - a short combat trial + fetch quest from your class instructor. Warriors branch into Fighter/Page/Spearman, Bowmen into Hunter/Crossbowman, etc.

Plan your 2nd-job build BEFORE you hit Lv 30. You'll have 121 SP to spend from Lv 30-70 and misallocating early levels hurts. Every 2nd-job class has both a canonical build and an alt build on the Jobs pages - pick one, then follow the per-level SP tables.
