Diamond is an ETC-category gemstone that drops rarely from mid-to-high-level mobs. In-game description: "A transparent jewel." No stats, no equip requirement - it's a pure crafting and quest material.

Why it matters: Diamond is the bottleneck item for two of Classic MapleStory's iconic quest chains:

Sleepywood Sauna Robe chain step 6 - Rowen the Fairy trades a Diamond for the Fresh Milk needed to complete the chain.
Ronnie's House-Building chain step 4 (final) - 1 Diamond is required alongside 30 Cold Eye Tails and 10 Dragon Skins.

How to acquire: Diamond drops from various mid-level mobs (Zombie Lupins near Ellinia, Cold Drakes in Ice Valley, various Sleepywood mobs). Drop rate is low - historical v83 estimates put it around 0.5-2% depending on mob.

Diamond vs Diamond Ore: two different items! Diamond Ore (WZ ID 4020007) is a crafting ore that drops from the Cursed Doll chain tier 3 - it's a smithing input. Diamond (this page, WZ ID 4020107) is the finished gem used as a trade / quest input. If a quest asks for a Diamond and your inventory has Diamond Ore, you can't substitute - they're distinct.

Free Market strategy: Diamonds trade for mid-hundreds-of-thousands of mesos in v83 economies during active quest completion phases. If you need one for a chain and don't want to grind, buying is often faster than farming.
