Squishy Shoes

L28 All-class shoes with +1 STR / +1 DEX / +1 INT / +1 LUK, +18 PDD, +7 MDD, and 5 upgrade slots. Renamed from 'Slime Shoes' in Classic World but kept the iconic all-stat blessing. The reason to still run KPQ.

Liven's take

Squishy Shoes are the boss drop from King Slime, the final-stage boss of the Kerning Party Quest. In traditional MapleStory these were called Slime Shoes and were arguably the single most-recognized KPQ reward in old-school Maple. Classic World renamed them but preserved the stats verbatim - this is the same iconic item under a new label, verified against the CoT 2 datamine (item ID 1072128).

Why they're the shoes equivalent of the Sauna Robe. Almost every other pair of shoes at L28-30 requires a specific job (Warrior Grieves, Mage Nitty, Bowman Boots, Thief Gidder Shoes) and gives DEF plus either Speed OR Jump. Squishy Shoes are Any Class and give +1 to every stat instead. That means:

  • Warriors: +1 STR is straight damage, and the +18 PDD is competitive with tier-appropriate warrior boots.
  • Magicians: +1 INT is meaningful at this level, and +7 MDD is the highest MDD you'll find on an L28 shoe.
  • Bowmen: +1 DEX is basically free damage and accuracy.
  • Thieves: +1 LUK is a big deal for Assassin and Bandit builds - see the Assassin build guide for why LUK-focused characters value every point they can stack.
  • Hybrid builds: the "wrong" stats aren't wasted for STR-Bandits, DEX-Fighters, or LUK- Magicians experimenting with off-meta approaches.

5 slots for scrolling. Not exceptional by L28-shoe standards (most are 5-7), but combined with the all-stat base makes them a great candidate for Shoes DEF scrolls, Shoes Speed scrolls, or Shoes Jump scrolls depending on your class's priority. See our Shoes Speed Scroll: Intermediate editorial for what to slot.

Comparison with L28 alternatives: at L28 the "best" alternative pair is the tier-appropriate job-specific boots (e.g. L28 Steel Grieves for Warriors). These give ~18 PDD + 1 Speed OR Jump, but no stat bonus. A well-scrolled Squishy Shoes beats them for most builds because the +4 raw stats compound with scrolling gains - though if you specifically need the +1 Speed or Jump for mobility, the specialized boots stay competitive.
