The 30-second summary
Warrior +1 SKILL
Gained a new 6th passive: Precise Strikes (accuracy + crit rate). Other 5 skills unchanged. Standard traditional MapleStory build order still valid, just slot the new skill for utility.
Bowman SKILL SWAP
Lost Blessing of Amazon (the classic party attack buff), gained Power Knockback (CC AoE that always crits). Significant build rethink.
Magician UNCHANGED
All six first-job skills match traditional MapleStory baseline exactly. Your old build plan works as-is.
Thief UNCHANGED
All six first-job skills match traditional MapleStory baseline exactly. The datamine calls it "Rogue" internally but the visible class name is unchanged. Same DEX-for-advancement quirk, same Lucky Seven, same Bandit Steal.
Warrior: gained Precise Strikes
The traditional MapleStory Warrior 1st-job kit had five skills: Improved HP Recovery, Improved MaxHP Increase, Power Strike, Slash Blast, and Iron Body. CoT 2 keeps all five with unchanged names/IDs and adds a sixth:
Precise Strikes
Repeated practice with your weapon increases Accuracy and Critical Rate. A passive quality-of-life boost - Accuracy helps you actually connect with same-level or higher-level mobs, and Crit is genuinely rare on Warriors, so this fills two subtle-but-real gaps.
Suggested allocation: 1 point utility, or fully skip in favor of the traditional MapleStory damage-first build. With only 61 SP total available across levels 10-30 and five core skills competing for them, Precise Strikes isn't a priority for grinders. Boss-focused Warriors might invest more for the accuracy floor.
Revised recommended order (Warrior): 1 point in Improved HP Recovery, then max Improved MaxHP Increase (compounds every level), then max Power Strike, then max Slash Blast, then Iron Body with anything left over. Slot Precise Strikes at 1-point utility once you're at 30, or skip it entirely if you're comfortable with the classic build.
See the full Warrior guide for the complete 1st-job skill breakdown with numbers.
Bowman: lost Blessing of Amazon, gained Power Knockback
The biggest single class change confirmed in CoT 2. The traditional MapleStory Bowman 1st-job kit had six skills: Blessing of Amazon (party attack buff), Critical Shot, the Booster (Hunter's Focus / Crossbow Focus), the Soul Arrow variant, Arrow Blow, and Double Shot. CoT 2 dropped Blessing of Amazon entirely and replaced it with:
Power Knockback
Swings the bow widely to push multiple enemies far back. This attack ALWAYS crits, and higher skill levels increase the number of mobs pushed per swing. A genuine mob-training utility, especially on maps where kite-and-shoot beats stand-and-deliver.
Why this matters for returners: Blessing of Amazon was a party utility that many traditional MapleStory builds threw a few points into for the group buff. Power Knockback is a completely different mechanic - a solo-mobility crowd control attack, not a party buff. If your traditional MapleStory memory tells you "throw 3 points into Amazon for the party synergy", forget that entirely.
Revised recommended order (Bowman): 1 point in Arrow Blow so you have an attack, then MAX Double Shot (pure damage winner), then MAX Critical Shot (damage multiplier), then evaluate Power Knockback based on your training style - grinders love it, boss-focused Bowmen skip it for the Booster. Blessing of Amazon is gone; do not budget SP for it.
See the full Bowman guide for the complete 1st-job skill breakdown with numbers.
Magician: no changes, use traditional MapleStory build as-is
All six first-job Magician skills match the traditional MapleStory baseline exactly: Improved MP Recovery, Improved MaxMP Increase, Magic Guard, Magic Armor, Energy Bolt, Magic Claw. Same skill IDs, same names, same mechanics per the datamine.
Recommended order (unchanged from traditional MapleStory): 1 point in Energy Bolt for an attack, max Magic Claw (your workhorse), max Magic Guard (the survival skill that defines Magicians), then MP Recovery + MaxMP as SP allows. Magic Armor is optional utility.
Numeric values (MP costs, Magic Guard's damage-to-MP ratio, advancement level) still reflect traditional MapleStory baseline pending live confirmation. See the full Magician guide.
Thief: no changes, still called "Rogue" in the datamine
All six first-job Thief skills match traditional MapleStory baseline. Nimble Feet, Keen Eyes, Disorder, Dark Sight, Lucky Seven, and Double Stab all present with unchanged IDs. Datamine files call the class "Rogue" internally (Nexon's canonical class name for the 1st job tier) but the visible in-game name is unchanged.
Class quirks preserved from traditional MapleStory:
- Advancement requires DEX 25, not the STR/DEX/ etc. minimum other classes use. New players sometimes miss this and get stuck at Lv 10 with wrong AP.
- Lucky Seven damage formula is LUK-only, not LUK+DEX. Foundational to the Assassin build later; overinvest LUK from Lv 1.
- Bandit Steal drop rates unchanged (per the datamine skill definition). Assassin vs Bandit is still the same fork at Lv 30.
See the full Thief guide.
What about 2nd + 3rd job?
We've only surfaced 1st-job skill changes so far. 2nd-job class splits (Fighter/Page/Spearman, Hunter/Crossbowman, Wizard-FP/Wizard-IL/Cleric, Assassin/Bandit) exist in the datamine but we haven't done the full traditional MapleStory-vs-CoT2 diff on those kits yet. The Sprint plan is to do the 2nd job pass so we can validate against live behavior at the same time.
If a 2nd job skill on the class page you're reading has a
verificationStatus: "closed-test-info" tag, treat
the numeric values as traditional MapleStory-baseline until noted otherwise.
How to check a specific skill
The class-specific job pages are the authoritative source:
Each page lists every skill in the 1st-job kit with its skill ID, max level, mechanic summary, and suggested AP allocation. Skills flagged "New in CoT 2" or "CoT 2 verified" are datamine-confirmed; everything else uses traditional MapleStory baseline values that we'll re-verify post-launch.
What about 2nd job?
1st-job kits are datamine-confirmed. 2nd-job kits are canonical traditional MapleStory pending in-game verification. If you're planning ahead for your Lv 30 branch decision, we've got a dedicated guide per class:
- Warrior: Fighter, Page, or Spearman? - three-branch decision, all skill kits and build orders.
- Magician: F/P, I/L, or Cleric? - element choice + Cleric heal-farming.
- Bowman: Hunter or Crossbowman? - covers the Power Knockback shuffle specific to this branch.
- Thief: Assassin or Bandit? - ranged stars vs melee daggers.
